![]() ![]() My wife and I travel a ton and mostly go around stalking our kids and spoiling our grandchildren (something to envy, I hope). I am lifetime Plat, of course, and generally EXP.Īs a Bay area resident, I have actually been partial to UA because they have better non-stop routes. (You get to continually roll over your unused miles, a huge thing) Also, a major psychological feeling of well being.īut, I can't resist a good deal and will not use AAirpass if it is more costly than just buying a good published fare (I would only buy what I can upgrade). ![]() I have not used all the miles each year and currently have a running total continually of about 600,000 AAirpass miles to use. For my AAirpass, I plunked down about $160K for the whole thing. I also bought United's Pass Plus, but didn't get their lifetime version (wished I had). I originally bought 55,000 miles per year (I was a realist and didn't think I could simply fly that much) and at that time there was no such thing as EXP status, so I merely wanted to have enough miles to get me F travel every year with the extra premium needed for F. Because of my costs (I am now 60 y/o) my actual mileage cost is about 22 cents per AAirpass mile. All of the previous posters have had intelligent things to say and most of which I agree with. I bought a lifetime AAirpass 15 years ago and will claim to be an authority. ** NO AUTOMATIC ELITE STATUS IS PROVIDED WITH THE AAIRPASS, BUT YOUR FLIGHTS DO ACCRUE MILEAGE** ![]() There is a $500 fee to transfer a corporate pass. The only exception is that corporate passes are transferable if the primary passholder leaves the company. Even passes purchased for companies are ONLY valid for a specific passholder. The primary passholder MUST be one of the traveling parties in all cases. Same trip in F is $8379 or 85.5 per mileĪs far as companions are concerned: you can have an unlimited number of companions use the pass over the course of your contract, but you can ONLY take 1 at a time. Same trip in J = $4410 or 45 cents per mile. Sample fare, LAX - NRT (R/T): coach = ~$3750 or 38.25 per mile. International travel is, in general, a horrible deal in coach with the AAirpass, but is marginally acceptable for premium cabins. **ALL FARES ARE SUBJECT TO TAX AND FEES** However, LAX-SFO in a crappy 2 cabin first class costs 70.2 cents per mile. Example, LAX-JFK on Flagship First (3 cabin) costs 65.25 cents. These upgrades are priced really strangely however. Upgrades to first/business are available, when applicable. There are too many variables to post, though I have a handy-dandy PDF with all the redemption values if you're interested. Also noteworthy is that the AAirpass cannot be purchased by credit card. However, there are a LOT of additional stipulations that alter the base price depending on factors such as: segment length, class of service, and lead time for booking. There is a lot of misinformation being spread out there, along with a lot of misunderstanding on consumer's side.īasically, the base redemption price is. I just got off the phone with the AAirpass people. If I remember correctly, you can share a membership among many people. Isn't AAirpass a decent deal if you want lounge access for a large number of people. ![]()
